Enine Sites' auto-layout engine reads three signals from your content (what the lead item is, how many supporting items follow, and what those items are) and maps them to a layout chosen for that exact shape.
The mapping is deterministic: the same combination of signals always produces the same layout. This is not a smart default that usually works. Write your content. The presentation is already decided.
A layout per content shape

The Enine Sites layout engine distinguishes three kinds of lead item (a photo, an icon, or text), four group sizes, and three kinds of supporting group, and maps each combination to a layout designed specifically for it. Not a closest match: the layout built for exactly what you wrote.
Lead item modality
A photograph, an icon, or text. Sets how the section opens.
Supporting item count
One, two, three, or many supporting items. Sets the grid.
Group modality
Photo, icon, or text, judged across the supporting items as a set.
How the engine resolves a layout
Three signals in. One layout out. Always the same answer.
The engine checks the three signals in order: the lead item first, then the count, then the group. Those inputs resolve to a single layout, instantly and every time. The same content always produces the same page.
Manual overrides
The engine is right most times. Two fields fix the rest.
Automatic layout resolution in Enine Sites is correct in the vast majority of cases, and two override fields exist for the exceptions. One controls how the section renders on its own page. The other controls how it renders when listed alongside similar sections. Everything else stays automatic.
